You can now use Visual Studio 2008 to develop SharePoint applications. Here are a list of downloads for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 development:
- Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 with Service Pack 1 is used to install WSS. Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) can be used to upgrade an existing WSS installation. (The version number 12.0.0.6219 should be displayed in the Central Administration, Operations, Servers in Farm page if you’ve already got SP1 installed.)
- Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: Software Development Kit (SDK) installs the software developer kit for WSS.
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 is used to install the .NET 3.5 framework (as well as .NET 2.0 SP1 and .NET 3.0 SP1).
- Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Tools: Visual Studio 2008 Extensions, Version 1.2 installs the extensions for creating WSS components.
- STSDEV: Simple Tools for SharePoint 2007 Development is a useful tool for working with the deployment of custom SharePoint components.
